Korea eSIM Not Working? 10 Ways to Fix Your Connection
You have arrived in Korea, turned off Airplane Mode, and expected your phone to connect, but your eSIM has no internet.

Do not delete the eSIM or immediately assume that it is defective. Most connection problems are caused by a disabled mobile line, the wrong SIM being selected for data, Data Roaming being turned off, or an incorrect network setting.

Work through these ten fixes in order. Start with the simple settings before changing anything advanced.

Menu names may vary depending on your phone manufacturer, operating-system version, language, and region.

Quick Answer: How to Fix a Korea eSIM

Try these steps:
  1. Confirm that you are in the plan’s coverage area.
  2. Turn on the Datapang eSIM.
  3. Select Datapang for mobile data.
  4. Enable Data Roaming if required.
  5. Turn off WiFi and test mobile data.
  6. Toggle Airplane Mode.
  7. Restart the phone and wait for registration.
  8. Check automatic network selection.
  9. Verify the APN instructions.
  10. Check the plan status and contact support.
  11. Do not delete the eSIM while troubleshooting.
Many eSIM profiles cannot be installed again using the same QR code.

Fix 1: Confirm That You Are in Korea and Inside the Coverage Area

A Korea-only eSIM may not connect before you arrive in Korea.

If you installed the plan at home and it showed No Service, that does not necessarily mean the installation failed. The eSIM may need to detect a supported Korean network before it can connect.

After landing:
  • Turn off Airplane Mode.
  • Wait one or two minutes.
  • Confirm that your phone can detect local networks.
  • Check that the plan includes South Korea.
  • Review the activation instructions in your confirmation email.
If you purchased a regional plan, verify that Korea appears in its country list. Do not assume that every Asia regional eSIM includes South Korea.

Fix 2: Make Sure the Datapang eSIM Is Turned On

An eSIM can be installed but disabled.

On an iPhone, open:

Settings → Cellular/Mobile Service → Datapang

Enable Turn On This Line

On many Android phones, open:

Settings → Connections/Network & Internet → SIM Manager/SIMs

Select the Datapang eSIM and make sure it is enabled.

If you have several stored eSIMs, check the label carefully. The active travel plan may be listed as Datapang, Travel, Secondary, Korea, or another label selected during installation.

Turning on the wrong travel eSIM will not provide access to the Korea plan.

Fix 3: Select Datapang for Mobile Data

Turning on an eSIM does not automatically guarantee that your phone will use it for internet access.

On an iPhone, open:

Settings → Cellular/Mobile Service → Cellular Data

Select Datapang

On Android, open the SIM Manager or mobile-network settings and select Datapang as the preferred SIM for mobile data.

If your home SIM remains selected, your phone may:
  • Use expensive international roaming
  • Show signal bars without using the Korea plan
  • Refuse to use mobile data if roaming is disabled
  • Continue working only when connected to WiFi
To reduce the risk of charges, turn off Data Roaming for your primary SIM. On a Dual SIM phone, also disable automatic cellular-data switching unless you intentionally want the phone to use your home plan as a backup.

Fix 4: Enable Data Roaming if Your Plan Requires It

Many travel eSIMs use partner networks in the destination. For these plans, Data Roaming must be enabled on the travel eSIM.

On an iPhone, open:

Settings → Cellular/Mobile Service → Datapang → Cellular Data Options

Turn on Data Roaming if required by your plan.

On Android, the setting is commonly located under:
Settings → Connections/Network & Internet → Mobile Network/SIMs → Datapang → Roaming

Make sure you are enabling roaming for the Datapang line, not your home SIM.

Datapang’s support guidance recommends confirming that roaming is enabled when an eSIM cannot access the internet. However, plan requirements can vary, so follow the instructions supplied with your specific product.

Fix 5: Turn Off WiFi and Test Mobile Data

Airport, hotel, and café WiFi can hide an eSIM problem.

Your phone may appear connected even though all internet traffic is passing through WiFi.

To test the eSIM:
  1. Turn off WiFi.
  2. Confirm that Mobile Data or Cellular Data is on.
  3. Look for a 5G, LTE, or 4G symbol.
  4. Open a new browser page.
  5. Test Naver Map, KakaoMap, or another online app.
Do not rely only on messaging notifications. Some previously loaded information may remain visible even when the phone has no active data connection.

If the internet stops as soon as WiFi is disabled, continue with the following fixes.

Fix 6: Toggle Airplane Mode

Airplane Mode can force the phone to search for and register with the mobile network again.

Turn on Airplane Mode for approximately 15–30 seconds. Then turn it off and wait for the signal to return.

On an iPhone:
  1. Open Settings
  2. Turn on Airplane Mode
  3. Wait at least 15 seconds.
  4. Turn it off.
  5. Allow the phone a minute or two to reconnect.
Apple recommends this step when an iPhone shows SOS, No Service, or Searching

If the phone was connected to airport WiFi, keep WiFi off temporarily while testing the mobile connection.

Fix 7: Restart the Phone and Wait for Network Registration

If Airplane Mode does not solve the problem, restart the phone.

After restarting:
  1. Confirm that the Datapang eSIM is still on.
  2. Check that it remains selected for mobile data.
  3. Confirm the correct Data Roaming setting.
  4. Wait several minutes.
  5. Test the internet with WiFi off.
The initial network registration may not be instantaneous, particularly after a flight, device restart, software update, or movement between coverage areas.

Avoid repeatedly turning the eSIM on and off every few seconds. Give the phone time to search for a supported network.

Fix 8: Check Network Selection

Automatic network selection is normally the best setting.

On an iPhone, open:
Settings → Cellular/Mobile Service → Datapang → Network Selection

Keep Automatic turned on unless your Datapang instructions provide a particular supported network. On Android, open the Datapang line under your mobile-network settings and look for Automatically Select Network, Network Operators, or a similar option.

If automatic selection does not work and your plan instructions list a supported Korean network, you can temporarily disable automatic selection and choose that network manually.

Do not select a random network. A network can appear in the list without being included in your plan.

If manual selection fails, return the setting to Automatic before continuing.

Fix 9: Verify the APN Settings

The Access Point Name, or APN, tells your phone how to access mobile data.

Many eSIMs configure the APN automatically. Some plans require a specific value provided in the activation email.

Check your Datapang instructions before editing the APN.

On an iPhone, the setting may appear under:

Settings → Cellular/Mobile Service → Datapang → Cellular Data Network

On Android, it is commonly found under:

Settings → Connections/Network & Internet → Mobile Network/SIMs → Datapang → Access Point Names

Menu names vary, and some carriers do not allow users to view or edit the APN.

If a manual APN is required:
  • Enter it exactly as supplied.
  • Check spelling and capitalization.
  • Remove accidental spaces.
  • Leave unspecified fields blank.
  • Save the new APN.
  • Select it if Android does not select it automatically.
  • Restart the phone afterward.
Do not copy APN details from an unrelated website, another traveler, or a different Datapang product. The wrong APN can prevent the internet connection from working.

Fix 10: Check the Plan Status and Contact Datapang Support

If all phone settings appear correct, check the eSIM plan itself.

Confirm:
  • The order was completed successfully.
  • The plan covers South Korea.
  • The activation period has not expired.
  • The plan’s validity has not ended.
  • The data allowance has not been exhausted.
  • The eSIM is installed on the intended device.
  • The plan was not already activated on a previous trip.
  • Your phone is eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked.
  • There is no relevant network outage.
If the plan includes a daily high-speed allowance, using that allowance may reduce the connection speed until the next reset. Slow data does not always mean the eSIM has stopped working.

Take screenshots of:
  • The installed eSIM line
  • The selected mobile-data line
  • The Data Roaming setting
  • The signal or error message
  • The APN screen, if applicable
  • Your order information
Connect to WiFi and contact Datapang support with those details. Clear screenshots make it easier for the support team to identify the problem.

Use the Datapang Customer Center or the support channel shown in your order information.

Do Not Delete the eSIM While Troubleshooting

Deleting the eSIM should not be an early troubleshooting step.

Most eSIM QR codes are intended for a single installation. If you remove the profile, scanning the original code again may fail.

Deleting an eSIM also removes information that support may need to inspect.

If you already deleted it, contact Datapang support. The Datapang Customer Center states that a replacement may be possible in some cases, but reissuance is not guaranteed for every plan or situation.

Wait for support instructions before removing an installed profile.

Should You Reset Your Network Settings?

Resetting network settings should be treated as a later troubleshooting step because it affects more than the travel eSIM.

Depending on the phone, it may remove or reset:
  • Saved WiFi networks
  • WiFi passwords
  • Cellular settings
  • VPN settings
  • Bluetooth connections
  • Other network preferences
Use this option only after completing the simpler checks and, preferably, after contacting support.

Do not choose Erase All Content and Settings or perform a factory reset. A full device reset is not an appropriate first response to an eSIM connection problem.

What if the eSIM Works but the Connection Is Slow?

A working but slow connection may have a different cause from complete loss of service.

Possible reasons include:
  • Network congestion
  • Weak indoor coverage
  • Underground location
  • Rural or mountainous terrain
  • A daily high-speed allowance has been used
  • The total high-speed allowance has been exhausted
  • The plan includes a speed cap
  • The phone is connected to a slower available network
  • Background downloads are using bandwidth
  • Several devices are sharing the hotspot
Move outdoors or closer to a window and test the connection again. Turn off unnecessary downloads, photo backups, video streaming, and hotspot connections.

Review the product description to understand what happens after the high-speed allowance is used.

Final Recommendation

If your Korea eSIM is not working, check the selected data line and Data Roaming first. These are two of the most common causes of an eSIM showing signal without providing internet access.

Then toggle Airplane Mode, restart the phone, confirm automatic network selection, and verify the APN supplied with your plan.

Avoid deleting the eSIM or resetting the entire phone. If the connection still does not work, use WiFi to contact Datapang support and provide screenshots of your mobile settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Korea eSIM show signal bars but no internet?
The wrong SIM may be selected for mobile data, Data Roaming may be disabled, or the APN may be incorrect. Select Datapang for mobile data and follow the settings supplied with your plan.

Does Data Roaming need to be on for a Korea eSIM?
Some travel eSIMs require Data Roaming because they connect through a supported partner network. Enable it on the Datapang line when instructed, while keeping roaming off on your primary SIM.

Why does my Korea eSIM say No Service?
The eSIM may be turned off, outside its coverage area, or unable to register with a supported network. Confirm that you are in Korea, enable the line, and toggle Airplane Mode for 15–30 seconds.

Why does the eSIM work on WiFi but not mobile data?
WiFi and eSIM data are separate connections. Turn off WiFi, select Datapang as the mobile-data line, and confirm that Mobile Data and the required roaming setting are enabled.

Should I choose a Korean network manually?
Keep Network Selection on Automatic unless your activation instructions identify a supported network. Selecting an unsupported network manually may prevent the connection.

Can I reinstall an eSIM after deleting it?
Not always. Many eSIM QR codes support only one installation. Contact Datapang support instead of assuming that the original QR code can be reused.

Will resetting network settings delete my eSIM?
The effect can vary by device and reset option. A network reset may also remove WiFi passwords and other preferences. Use it only as a later step and follow device or support instructions carefully.

Why is my Korea eSIM suddenly slow?
You may have used the plan’s high-speed allowance, or the network may be congested. Check the plan conditions, data usage, signal strength, background downloads, and connected hotspot devices.

Can an eSIM work if my phone is carrier-locked?
An eSIM from another provider generally requires an unlocked phone. Contact your home carrier if you are unsure about the device’s lock status.

Who should I contact if none of these fixes work?
Connect to WiFi and contact Datapang support through the Customer Center or the contact details supplied with your order. Include screenshots of the installed line, selected data SIM, roaming setting, signal status, and APN.
